(especially the pee pee in Ca.) degrades rather quickly. I don't have an explanation on a molecular level, but the gas looses octane the longer it sits. So, you may end up with fuel that is a point or two off (enough to cause detonation). I don't know how the Federal inspectors deal with that. That's actually what our detonation sensor is for, it actually is a "bad gas sensor", as it goes out of the loop after (around) 3,000 RPM or when in open loop operation....just an aside.
